First manufactured in 1998 the Honda CB600F Hornet utilised a detuned version of the class-leading CBR600F engine in a naked streetbike.
Released as Honda's response to the success of the Bandit 600 it featured more aggressive styling than its Suzuki rival, most notable in the hi-level exhaust exiting flush with the seat. With such a distinct position the standard exhaust cried out to be replaced with something more exciting.
Because the pipework travels up inside the rider's right leg, aftermarket manufacturers quickly realised that some sort of heat guard was required to reduce the not entirely unpleasant sensation of a warmed inner thigh!

Micron Beta Carbon Race Silencer from The Hornet's
Nest "Treat your ears to this. At last, a decent aftermarket can from Micron. Loud and fruity, this pipe is the same as the ones used on some of the Hornet Cup race bikes. Micron have designed the pipe to fit the Honda Hornet perfectly. They are available in both carbon fibre and alloy finishes. The carbon fibre version is 50 percent lighter than the original Honda exhaust and better still, both pipes can boost power in the mid-range by up to 3bhp! They're pretty fruity too. So much so that there is a worry that they may not be road legal in the UK. And you care?" Prices from £199.99
Scorpion
Oval Stainless Steel Race Can from Ciao.com "The first thing replaced was the standard exhaust end can (too quiet, too heavy), which was replaced with a Scorpion Oval race can in stainless steel. No re-jetting was required on the dyno test and I gained 3-4 bhp at the rear wheel." Prices from £129.99
