BMW Motorcycles

BMW's reputation in motorcycle manufacture has been steadly improving in the last decade. Previously they were noted for producing what were best described as practical or functional motorbikes with a distinctive styling that a few loved, and many loathed.

Everything has changed in the last 2 years as BMW line-up now features models some very attractive models like the F800S and the R1200S that retain their distinction from the big Japanese manufacturers, but applied their own European style. Perhaps the most famous, and certainly the best-selling, model in the range is the R1150GS. Made famous by Ewan McGregor's epic round the world trip it is a truly exceptional motorcycle that really is capable of such a feat straight out of the box (well, a bit of luggage and a new exhaust wouldn't hurt but we would say that wouldn't we).

Stock exhausts on BMW bikes are among some of the largest and heaviest fitted as standard, the one 'gracing' the R1200S being a real brute. Several European exhaust manufacturers make cans that fit, with German manufacturer Laser, and Austrian Remus being popular choices.

BMW's come with a hefty price tag, but if possible leave a couple of hundred notes in your budget to upgrade the exhaust. Twin engines, as favoured by BMW through most of their range, really respond well to an upgraded end can, both in terms of sound and performance.
