Yamaha Fazer 600 FZ6 Performance Exhausts
Yamaha’s launched the Fazer in 1998. Early Fazer’s shared the same engine as the Thundercat, as typical of the class slightly detuned for more mid-range power. As standard it benefited from a useful half-fairing, unlike its cotemporaries the Hornet and the Bandit. As befits a model that has been around for over 10 years there are a wealth of aftermarket exhausts available from a range of manufacturers, so plenty for the enthusiast to choose from. With the correct jetting on these early carburetted models you can expect a marginal increase in overall power from a performance exhaust but perhaps more importantly much smoother delivery eradicating the occasional flat spot complained of by many owners.
In 2005 Yamaha redesigned the Fazer, now calling it the FZ6. Instead of the Thundercat engined a detuned R6 lump was inserted. Yamaha went with two silencers exiting under the rear seat. It’s a tidy finish, but like Suzuki’s later GSR600, somewhat spoilt by a plasticky finish but replacing the end cans can do away with all of this excess bodywork and reveal the metal beneath.
"The FZ6 may have underseat exhausts, but they're not the most sexy things in the world due to their budget-looking exterior. These road-legal replacements from Micron boost the appeal of the FZ6's sculpted tailpiece, but won't annoy the neighbours when you fire the bike up at six in the morning. They fit the stock pipework, and shave a handy 2kg from the rear of the bike. Stainless, carbon or titanium sleeves are available." Prices from £399 Click to find recommended retailers
